What's Mailasite all bout?

Mailasite is aimed at those who want to write an online diary (sometimes referred to as a "blog"), and post photos and other content to the web for their friends, family, colleagues and fans, all through the simplicity of sending email.

It's ideal for anyone else who is not very technical but who wants to blog or share photos online. It's also a fine tool for web guru's who would like to just blog from their email environment knowing that they can paste inline and attached images into their emails and they'll be handled nicely when they are published online. How it started

Around April 2006, Phil, one of the founders of Salsa, was one of many recipients of a regular email diary distributed by a friend of his Alan . Alan would regularly send around updates to friends and fellow car club members about the latest modifications, or work he was doing on his Nissan cars. His emails were short, interesting and featured plenty of photos of his work with annotations to the photos made in paintbrush.

Phil told Alan about the latest craze of blogging and suggested to Alan that he started a blog site to capture his emails. A dilemma arose however as Alan is not a technology expert and asking Alan to learn how to drive one of the major online blogging tools wasn't the ideal solution. Surely the blogging tools of the day would allow Alan's content to be posted via an email interface? Sort of...

Phil set out to find a blogging tool that could handle Alan's emails but all failed including the biggest commercial platforms and the open source tools. Most had email publishing, but most had also not focused much on getting email based blogging to work well. Problems included poor handling of special characters, failing to process attached or inline images, and lack of tools to drive the blogging experience via email.
